Category

Currently comes out as Kateggoría, not Kategoría. How important is it to change this? It might require a fair amount of work (or a bot) to change category links in articles. StevenJ81 (discusión) 13:03 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

Some time ago, I've translated messages in the translatewiki and I intend to translate some more soon. I've checked few times to change some namespaces...such as Shablón and not Xablón etc. However there's unfortunately a technical issue with it right now, no wiki can change its' namespaces until the issue is resolved. Aside from the technical issue you're talking about, it brings up another point. Assuming we eventually change this, there are a lot of pages that contain lines that say things like [[Kateggoría:abcdefgh]]. If the space names change, does every single article with a line like that in it need to be changed manually?? That's a lot of work. We're probably going to want to obtain a bot to do that. Personally, I don't know how to write a bot. Do you? I don't think we ought to change any space names at all until we figure out how that works, so we can do this reasonably seamlessly. No, no, I've already changed namespaces here before. When you change the namespace...all those pages who have Kateggoría will automatically change into Kategoría. (And I don't know how to write a bot.) --Universal Life (discusión) 18:32 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

That's a relief. But we'd still have to change some names manually; Category:Xablones would have to be changed to Category:Shablones, for example. StevenJ81 (discusión) 18:34 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

Yes :) And all previous namespaces always automatically remain in the memory and redirect to the actual one. There are still pages where it's edited as Category:abcdefgh but we see on page as Kategoría:abcdefgh. --Universal Life (discusión) 18:36 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

Capitalization

What is the standard for capitalization in JS-latn? For example, assuming we are not at the beginning of the sentence, should the language be "Judeo-Español," "judeo-español," or even "Judeo-español"? Or is there one? In English, certainly the first part, and almost certainly the second, would be capitalized. In French, it probably wouldn't be. We should probably do these things consistently. Good question :) I go for the first one, both capitals. I think both English and French capitalise it, I think Castilian doesn't capitilise the second one but I might be wrong. Turkish definitely capitalises both. --Universal Life (discusión) 18:10 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

French does not. See fr:Judéo-espagnol, where the page name is capitalized because it's a page name. The text begins "Le judéo-espagnol ..." Additionally, judging by the respective Wikipedia pages:

• Latin does.
• Modern Spanish does not. (They also do not hyphenate; it is "judeoespañol".)
• Portugese and Italian do not.
• Romanian does not.

It is always possible that JS does not follow the pattern, but the pattern for Romance languages is pretty consistent. StevenJ81 (discusión) 18:31 25 Set 2015 (UTC)

The thing is JS has no pattern, there is no single institution to determine its style of orthography. So in JS, I remember seeing two styles; both majuscule and both minuscule.
